Probably the people successfully implementing their grand vision would root for people “selling out.” Most likely people trashing this approach don’t make money from their own projects.
And exciting for the World Series. Best of luck there!
By the way, do you have some set of criteria to reassess the project in July?
I don't have a hard set of criteria but I think it's "I'll know it when I see it". I think a ballpark would be, at least signs it'll make at least 1k in revenue consistently a month.
I'm not going to shut the project down but probably change focuses.
One thing I'm learning is it's very challenging to just make apps and make enough money from just apps without doing the content work. And the poker project has had a ton of content work around it, including the Reddit posts, the YouTube, and the upcoming book.
But I kind of backed into doing a content brand. And while my poker content has been focused on the software side and done well, I'm thinking a techie content brand would align much more with my resume. I have $50k in poker public tournament winnings whereas some competitors have $10M in winnings. But meanwhile, I worked as an engineer at companies like Google and taught machine learning classes there.
And the market is obviously hyping AI big time. So I'm tempted to do a generative AI content brand. I feel it aligns more with my background, will be more appropriate for my Twitter and LinkedIn feed than poker content, and there's a few areas within gen AI that have caught my interest recently.
But, certainly being yet another person jumping on the AI hype train is selilng out a bit, which is perhaps why I'm writing a post defending selling out ;)
I might be wrong but it sounds like whether you put less focus on the poker idea, you’ll still play and enjoy poker regardless!
It makes a lot of sense how you described it to focus on AI, especially with your credentials and experience. Curious to see what comes up for you in the coming weeks!

Good luck with the native version of the app and the poker strategy book!
